Identity
Identity
We are a community of people who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
In our unity there is diversity. Some of us grew up going to church; others of us did not. Some of us have lived in the area for decades; others of us have just arrived. We work in hospitals and in schools, at construction sites and in recycling facilities, at our homes in the western suburbs and in our offices downtown. We go to school and enjoy our retirements; we vote Republican and Democratic; we cheer for the Sox and for the Cubs – we are in many ways quite different from each other. We are united, though, in our desire to be people who through our actions, words, and thoughts give evidence to God’s grace in our lives.
We were established as a congregation in Western Springs in 1938. Our church is a member of a larger group of churches in North America called The Christian Reformed Church. This is a denomination in the Reformed tradition comprised of approximately 1000 churches across the United States and Canada. Knowing God. Knowing Ourselves. Through Christ.
Not only do we know God by Jesus Christ alone, but we know ourselves only by Jesus Christ. We know life and death only through Jesus Christ. Apart from Jesus Christ, we do not know what is our life, nor our death, nor God, nor ourselves.
- Blaise Pascal
